SURPRISINGLY AMAZING CUSTARD APPLES

Posted by Carolyn Lees on

To tell you the truth I have never taken much ‘nutritional’ notice of custard apples in the past because I ignorantly presumed they didn’t contain much, but boy was I wrong. It turns out they are packed full of vitamins and minerals, and some people are using the leaves and parts of the fruit as the newest cancer treatment.

Custard apples contain magnesium- great for muscle strength, bodily relaxation, reducing muscular cramps, improving heart health, and for increasing energy production. Potassium is important for a healthy nervous system, it- with magnesium, can help decrease the chance of stroke and heart attack. Calcium is for bone health, as well as lowering cholesterol, muscle health, and in maintaining a regular heartbeat. Phosphorus is good for cell growth, energy production, and healthy kidney function. Iron is essential for energy, immune function and cell growth. Custard apples are also rich in Vitamins C and A, great for radiant skin, shiny hair, improving eye sight, healing wounds, warding off colds and flus. Whilst containing copper, fibre some protein and B vitamins to boot.

The leaves of the custard apple tree, also known as the guanabana tree or graviola, is a regular weapon in the treatment arsenal of any cancer patient in Peru and many parts of South America. With some of the largest and most reputable scientific communities in the world starting to research the leaves and fruit- from PubMed to the National Cancer institute, there appears to be something very promising there….
