Throughout history honey and bee products have been used as a medicine, many of which are now being investigated by science, with their findings published in well-respected Medical Journals.
Raw honey is made by the sweet nectar of a flower being mixed with a bee’s enzymes, and contains minerals and Vitamins including B vitamins, Vitamin C, D and E.
Raw honey is considered an alkaline-forming food. Some people use raw honey to counteract indigestion.
Most honey on the shelves of supermarkets is not raw, and has been heated to 70 degree’s, which destroys much of the valuable, health-giving properties.
Manuka honey, is particularly anti-bacterial, anti-inflammatory, and relieves pain. It is wonderful for colds, flu’s, infections, wounds, burns and much more. The higher the UMF, which stands for Unique Manuka Factor, the more powerfully it works as an antibacterial medicine.
Propolis- is a polyphenol (antioxidant) rich waxy substance collected from various plants by bees and used to fill in small gaps within the hive. Propolis has many health properties for humans too. It appears to boost the immune system whilst fighting bacterial and fungal infections excellently, to heal and repair ulcers, cuts, wounds, a sore throat, tonsillitis, dry coughs, and even acne. The Journal of Nutritional Biochemistry has shown propolis to be useful in decreasing inflammation; atherosclerosis and fatty plaque build up, as well as helping cholesterol.
Royal jelly- is a specialized secretion of young nurse bees that feed copious amounts of it to particular larvae in order to create a new queen bee for the hive. Royal Jelly is very high in minerals, the B vitamins, Vitamins A, C, D and E. It contains hormones, amino acids and has antibiotic activity. Royal jelly has been used for centuries in the East for treating asthma, insomnia, pancreatitis, liver problems, stomach ulcers, bone fractures and skin disorders.
