WHERE ARE ALL THE BEES GOING?

Posted by Naturopath . on

Bees are invaluable pollinators and essential to global food production. Without bees most flowers, plants, fruits and vegetables would not be able to reproduce, as it’s the honeybee that allows fertilization to take place.

Very alarmingly in recent years, bees have gone missing from Countries all over the world.  Whole populations of bees throughout Europe, America and parts of Asia have disappeared due to what’s been termed CCD or ‘Colony Collapse Disorder’.

Heavy spraying of pesticides on crops appears to be the main culprit and Europe went so far as suspending its use of certain pesticides in a bid to reverse and repair any damage caused to the honeybee.

Pesticide companies struck back by trying to sue Europe and taking the European Union to court to overturn their decision on ceasing use of particular pesticides. But now they are petitioning the U.S. government to increase the allowable limit of pesticides residues too.

Throughout history not only have bees allowed our crops to grow, but also their honey and bee products have been used as medicine.

Honey is made by the sweet nectar of a flower mixed with a bee’s enzymes, and is rich in minerals and Vitamins such as B, Vitamin C, D and E.

Propolis- is a waxy substance collected from various plants by bees and used to fill in small gaps within the hive. Propolis has many health properties for humans too.

Royal jelly- is a specialized secretion of young nurse bees that feed copious amounts of it to particular larvae in order to create a new queen bee for the hive. Royal Jelly is very high in minerals, the B vitamins, Vitamins A, C, D and E.

So to protect our bees and our future crops, buy only certified organic honey and visit SumOfUs online to find out more, or make a donation to help.
