FIVE TIPS TO NOURISH YOUR GUT BRAIN

Posted by Naturopath . on

The bacteria present in your gut not only affect how you digest and absorb nutrients in the food you eat, they also play a strong role in immune and nervous system function.  To keep your friendly bacteria nourished and happy I suggest the following five tips:

  1. Eat foods naturally high in good gut bacteria such as kefir, sauerkraut, miso, tempeh and natural yogurts. Avoid high sugar or artificially sweetened varieties.
  2. Stick to high fibre foods such as barley grass, wheat grass, brown rice, rye, spelt, legumes, fresh vegetables and fruits to feed your good gut bacteria and fight off your bad gut bacteria.
  3. Avoid processed foods, which feed our bad gut bacteria such as fast foods, fatty fried foods, junk foods, sweets, soft drinks, lollies, and ice creams.
  4. It was found that natural vinegars could boost and protect good gut bacteria, such as apple cider vinegar, balsamic vinegar and rice vinegar.
  5. Where possible, avoid ingesting antibiotics or antibiotic fed meats or dairy, as these kill off your own good gut bacteria. Organic meats and dairy are best in these cases.
