As a result of our environment and diet we accumulate traces of heavy metals, such as mercury and lead, in our bodies. Heavy metals are linked to problems with brain development and neural disorders.
The good news is that the following foods can help the body eliminate these toxins:
Garlic helps protect the body from the toxic effects of heavy metals. Eat a couple of crushed garlic cloves a day, or take in capsule form.
Coriander or cilantro helps mobilise heavy metals out of the body. Add to cooking, vegetable juices or eat raw in salads.
Chlorella is a type of green algae that binds with heavy metals in the bloodstream and assists in moving them out of tissues. Available from health food stores in supplement form.
Apple pectin, made from the pure fibre of apples, is beneficial not only for the digestive system but it also helps clear heavy metals from the body. It is available in liquid or powder form from health food stores.
Cabbage is a good source of sulphur, which is needed by the liver’s detoxification pathways to bind to heavy metals and clear them from the body.
